Library Rules and Disciplinary Procedures

Libraries are sacred spaces for knowledge seekers, and to ensure a harmonious and productive environment for everyone, certain rules and regulations are in place. Here are some key guidelines to follow:

  • Silence is Golden: Maintain a peaceful atmosphere by refraining from loud conversations and disruptive behavior. Respect the needs of others who seek a quiet space for studying and reading.

  • Mobile Etiquette: Keep your mobile phone on silent mode while in the library. If you need to take or make a call, step outside the library to minimize disturbance.

  • Membership Card:  The library membership card serves as the primary identification for users and is strictly non-transferable. It is mandatory for library users to keep their Student ID visible at all times.

  • Book issue: No items belonging to the library are to be taken out of the library unless they have been checked out at the Circulation Desk.

  • Personal assets: Personal belongings should not be left unattended. The DIU library will not be responsible for the loss of personal belongings.

  • Academic Use Only: Utilize library resources for educational purposes. Avoid engaging in activities unrelated to studying or research that may disturb others or compromise the purpose of the library. Making unreasonable noise, loud conversations, and unnecessary gossiping that can distract other library users are not permitted. The study zone is used for academic purposes only.

  • Food and Drinks: To maintain cleanliness and protect library resources, avoid bringing food or drinks inside. Spills and stains can damage materials and attract pests. Eating, drinking, sleeping, and smoking are not allowed in the library.

  • Handle with Care: Treat books, magazines, and other materials with respect. Avoid tearing pages, underlining, or marking them in any way. Preserve the quality and longevity of the library's resources for future users. Library furniture/equipment should not be moved from its original location.

  • Computer using: Library computers are provided to be strictly used for academic purposes and cannot be used for personal e-mail, online chatting, or playing games.

  • Respect Security and Staff: Respect their personal space and refrain from engaging in disruptive or disrespectful behavior. Library staff/security reserve the right to inspect bags or other personal property when users enter or leave the library.

  • Rules Breaker: When a user is caught breaching the library rules and regulations, immediate action will be taken. Defaulters may be suspended from the library.
